Wayne County Hospital Senior Behavioral Group Unit Clerk/Transportation Position

Reports to: Geropsychiatric Program Director

Job Description: The Unit Clerk performs assigned secretarial/clerical duties in the Geropsychiatric Program. He/she provides administrative assistance to the Multi-Disciplinary Team. Working as the support person they will undertake a variety of clerical and receptionist tasks. He/She will also drive the designated vehicle to and from assigned destinations to pick up and deliver patients and/or supplies and may be required to assist patients in and out of vehicles.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Complies with patient confidentiality in accordance with the HIPAA at all times
  • Attends all mandatory in-services, development and training sessions to stay up to date on current policies and procedures
  • Communicates clear, concise, effective, accurate, and timely information verbally, written or electronically (fax/email)
  • Initiates, assembles and maintains the patient chart in an appropriate, order, as designed by the hospital and unit policy
  • Maintains patient progress notes, receives medical records and other documents in a timely manner ensuring they are readily available for staff
  • Ensures admission, transfer, and discharge paperwork is processed, and completed timely
  • Enters charges and processes billing information
  • Completes unit supply order requisitions to maintain adequate quantity of forms, materials, supplies and equipment, are available on unit
  • Photocopies, collects and organizes documents, reports and files as required
  • Uses professional telephone techniques when answering telephone, transferring calls and taking messages
  • Provides resources and support for patient before, during and after care, treatment and services are provided
  • Assists and coordinates patient transportation as applicable
  • Assists the patient with menu selection and coordinates the ordering and delivery of patient meals and snacks on the unit
  • Transports patients and assist patient during transportation to and from hospital
  • Keeps transportation vehicle clean

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience in Behavioral Health, preferably geriatrics
  • Basic knowledge of Human Behavior
  • CPR, CPI and First Aid Certification
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled
  • Attends all staff meetings
  • Microsoft knowledge/Computer proficiency
  • Excellent communication skills
